PRG President Liliana Filip Speaks at Women in Data Science Conference, a Stanford Initiative, on Importance of Ecosystems for Defense Innovation
Political Research Group (PRG) President Liliana Filip delivered a speech at the Aerospace and Defense Panel during the Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference organized by 360 Think Tank in Romania on International Women’s Day. This global conference, originally organized by Stanford University in the US, is now in its eighth year and is held at over 150 locations worldwide, showcasing outstanding women in data science who are doing exceptional work in the field.
Mrs. Liliana Filip delivered a speech highlighting the importance of creating an ecosystem that engages all stakeholders, including researchers, industries, businesses, and governments, in designing public policies and regulations that support the innovative trends in data and science for defense. She emphasized that the use of data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence in the defense industry can lead to significant cost savings and innovation opportunities.
Collaboration between stakeholders can be fostered by establishing communities of practice, developing partnerships, and investing in education and training programs. Ms. Filip pointed out that public-private partnerships can be a powerful way to leverage private sector expertise and resources to support defense operations and promote innovation.
Moreover, PRG President highlighted the importance of NATO’s platform for collaboration and cooperation among member countries in the domain of data and science in defense. This platform promotes the development and deployment of innovative technologies that enhance the alliance’s collective defense capabilities. However, she cautioned that there is a need to streamline decision-making processes and address the shortage of skilled personnel in key areas such as cybersecurity.
Other distinguished speakers who were part of the panel included Bianca Diana Tureanu, an Avionics Engineer at the Danish Ministry of Defence, and Mioara Mandea, the Head of the Science Coordination Department at the Centre National d’Études Spatiales. They shared their valuable experiences and knowledge about the aerospace and defense industry, highlighting the crucial role that data science plays in this field.
The conference featured more than 40 women data scientists from various sectors, including industry, government, academia, and civil society. The sessions focused on a range of topics, including Smarter Cities, Supply Chain Management, Public Policies based on data science, e-Health, Ethics in AI implementation, current EU trends, and the impact of data science on the labor market and education.
